The tireless captain of Serenity often finds himself struggling to keep his crew going. While it may not seem like much Mal, just wants to keep his crew together and keep surviving. Despite Zoe's insistence that he has a problem with his brain being missing, he has a close relationship to his entire crew (including Simon and River). They may fight from time to time but Mal would never leave any of them behind.
When it comes to deal with Mal it would be a wise decision to leave his crew alone. He has been known to say that if you turn on any of his crew, you turn on him.
